1. Posts: Chair (GUJCOST – GNLU Centre of Excellence in IPR)

2. Role and Responsibilities Under the guidance of Dean, Research and in-coordination with GNLU Center for IPR and overall direction of the Director, GNLU the incumbent shall perform the following roles and responsibilities in consultation with GUJCOST; (i) Design, develop and implement research plans to study and analyze state, national and international IP law, policies and practices in order to understand issues that require urgent attention and recommend solutions for a better framework. These research projects can be carried out independently or in collaboration with but not limited to national or international organizations such as government departments, WIPO, S&T institutions, industrial or corporate houses, law firms, public sector undertaking etc. (ii) Interdisciplinary studies in order to understand how the law for Intellectual Property Rights is related other domestic laws; (iii) Disseminate research findings through publication and/or participation in seminars, workshops, conferences, panel discussions etc. and/or plan and conduct activities like workshops, and seminars for IP stockholders; (iv) Carry out doctoral or post-doctoral research, supervision of Ph.D. research to contribute the capacity building among IPR stack holders of the country; (v) Conduct optional, credit, seminar teaching courses for students and young professionals; (vi) Plan and conduct training and extension activities such as workshops, seminars, roundtable conferences; (vii) Provide input to Legislature, Executive and Judiciary on latest trends and developments in IPR laws, policies and practices upon requests from time to time; (viii) Assist in IRP laws, policies and practices related activities of the GUJCOST and the GNLU including legal advice on legal suits / arbitration matters and other dispute resolution issues; (ix) Generate resources to assist various clients research, drafting, training etc. in IPR matters; (x) Provide guidance to the students, including preparation for placements and internship in IPR laws, policies and practices. (xi) Act as a nodal person for guidance in IPR laws, policies and practices’ knowledge and research base of GNLU; (xii)Mobilize financial and human resources to carry out theabove programmes and activities; (xiii) Ensure that GNLU achieves knowledge and research excellence worldwide in IPR laws, policies and practices; (xiv) Performs any other duties as required by the GUJCOST through GNLU and by the GNLU; (xv) Conduct at least one study, including survey study or project annually; (xvi) Study different facts of IPR independently or linked with interdisciplinary aspects and enable contributions to journals, conferences, seminars etc. in relevant areas.

3. Essential Criteria: (i) Ph.D or Master’s Degree with specialization in IPR Law with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university; (ii) At least five to eight years of experience in related field. (iii) Research Publication in peer reviewed Journals, Research Reports (iv) Good knowledge of latest national and international research trends and developments in the fields of IPR laws, policies and practices; (v) Ability to conceptualize and organize international training and discussion programmes; (vi) Fluency in English language.

4. Highly desirable: (i) Experience in teaching/research in premier law universities/colleges/firms in the area of IPR; (ii) Experience in working with international IPR Agencies; law firms; corporate houses and relevant governmental agency/departments (iii) International exposure and outlook to IPR laws, policies and practices. (iv) National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar test accredited by the UGC like SLET/SET; (v) Excellent inter-personal and team-building skills; (vi) Ability to innovate and to improve academic programmes or services and to pursue interesting new ideas and new methods;
